Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing and using BlackSquad Budget (the "App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, you must stop using the App immediately.

2. Description of Service

BlackSquad Budget is a personal budgeting application that helps users track income, expenses, credit cards, debts, savings goals, and financial obligations. The App runs in your web browser and stores data locally on your device. Optional encrypted sync is available to keep data in sync across devices.

3. Free Service, No Warranty

BlackSquad Budget is free forever. There are no hidden fees, subscriptions, or premium tiers now or in the future.

The App is provided "as is" without warranty. We make no guarantees about:

• Uptime or availability (especially the optional sync server)
• Accuracy of calculations or insights
• Fitness for any particular purpose
• Data preservation (backups are your responsibility)
• Compatibility with future browser versions or operating systems

4. User Responsibility for Data Backup

You are responsible for maintaining backups of your data. We strongly recommend:

• Exporting a backup file at least once per month
• Storing backups in a safe location (cloud storage, external drive, etc.)
• Testing restore from backup periodically to ensure backups work
• Keeping multiple backup copies in different locations

If your browser data is cleared or your device is lost, and you do not have a backup, your data is unrecoverable. We are not responsible for data loss without backup.

5. Data Loss and Limitation of Liability

We are not liable for any loss of data, loss of income, or indirect damages. This includes:

• Accidental deletion of your data
• Browser data being cleared by the user, browser updates, or operating system changes
• Sync server downtime or data loss on the server
• Incorrect calculations or financial advice derived from the App
• Financial losses resulting from decisions made using the App

In any case, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for the App (which is zero). You use the App at your own risk.

6. Use of Optional Sync

Sync Availability

The optional sync feature allows you to sync your budget across devices. However:

• Sync is provided on a best-effort basis with no uptime guarantee
• Sync may be unavailable for maintenance or upgrades
• Sync server may be discontinued with reasonable notice
• In the event of sync server failure, your local data remains safe

Your Sync Passphrase

You are responsible for your sync passphrase.

• Do not share your sync key or passphrase with anyone unless you trust them completely
• Do not use a weak passphrase (we recommend 12+ characters with mixed case, numbers, and symbols)
• If you believe your passphrase is compromised, change it immediately or start a new sync
• We cannot recover a forgotten passphrase — only you can prevent this by keeping it safe

Sync Data Limits

We may implement storage limits for sync data. If you exceed those limits, you may not be able to sync until you reduce your data size (delete old transactions or records).

7. Prohibited Uses

You agree not to use the App for:

• Illegal purposes or activities
• Harassment, abuse, or harm to others
• Attempting to hack, reverse-engineer, or modify the App
• Scraping, automated access, or denial-of-service attacks
• Money laundering, fraud, or financial crime
• Storing or transmitting illegal content

8. Accuracy of Financial Calculations

The App is a budgeting tool, not financial advice. Please note:

• Interest calculations are estimates based on your inputs and may not match exact bank calculations
• Category targets and pacing are reference values, not laws of finance
• Debt payoff timelines assume consistent payments and do not account for fees or compounding variations
• Credit card interest estimates assume standard US card rules and may differ by issuer and country
• You should verify important financial decisions with your bank or a financial advisor

We recommend double-checking calculations, especially for debt payoff plans and credit card estimates.

9. Intellectual Property

The App, including all code, design, text, icons, and documentation, is the intellectual property of BlackSquad Budget. You have a limited license to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not:

• Copy, modify, or create derivative works
• Redistribute or sell the App or components of it
• Remove copyright notices or attribution
• Use the App to build a competing service

10. Third-Party CSV Files

When you import a CSV bank statement:

• The file is processed entirely in your browser — we never receive it
• You are responsible for ensuring the file does not contain sensitive information beyond what the App needs
• Duplicate detection and import previews help prevent errors, but you must review the data
• We are not responsible for import errors or data loss during import

11. Donations and Support

BlackSquad Budget is free forever. Donations are entirely optional. If you choose to donate via PayPal or another method:

• Donations are gifts with no guarantee of services or priority support
• Donations do not grant special features or access
• We appreciate donations but do not require them for the App to function

12. Changes to Terms and Service

We may change these terms or the App itself at any time. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you of material changes. Your continued use of the App constitutes acceptance of updated terms. If you disagree with changes, you may discontinue use.

13. Service Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to sync (if applicable) if you:

• Violate these terms
• Attempt to hack or abuse the service
• Exceed reasonable usage limits
• Engage in illegal or harmful activity

In most cases, we will provide notice before termination. Termination of sync access does not affect your local app data.

14. Disclaimers

No Financial Advice. The App is a budgeting tool, not financial advice. Consult a qualified financial advisor for investment, tax, or legal questions.

No Account Connection. The App does not connect to your bank, credit card, or brokerage accounts. You must manually enter or import data. We are not responsible for errors in manual entry.

No Guarantee of App Permanence. While we intend BlackSquad Budget to continue forever, we make no promise. If the App is discontinued, we will provide reasonable notice and a way to export your data.

15. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Jamaica. Any disputes will be resolved in accordance with Jamaican law, though we prefer to resolve disputes amicably through discussion.
